If you ask locals and almost locals who are permanent island tourists: 'What do you do on Föhr?' Then surely among the TOP3 comes: 'Just drive around the island.' Ok! Challenge accepted.
After a bit of research, it became clear that it's about 42 kilometers. Many people would certainly manage with a regular bicycle. And with this beautiful weather and bright sunshine, which was predicted for the whole day, it was already. But I didn't want to! Having my Texel circumnavigation - with headwind and 60 kilometers of pedaling to complete exhaustion - still traumatically anchored in my mind, I insisted on an e-bike. The first time I would sit on one, I was very excited ;-)!
The test ride went smoothly - and at the latest, when the worst headwind dominated for the third time during the day (and I passed everyone effortlessly and with a smile), it was clear that I didn't want to ride anything else!
BUMPING OVER ROCKS AND STONES
The bike paths on Föhr are well signposted. Although you're not always sure if they are really bike paths - or just gravel tracks. Sometimes I feared that one of my tires would burst because it was like turbulence on an airplane!
The big loop around Föhr is definitely a very worthwhile route (especially with an e-bike!). You pass important sights, such as the local airfield ;-) (I'm so glad I could take the ferry):
You have beautiful views everywhere, like here of the beach, dune, sea and the ferry passing in the background:
