27/10/2019 - Eureka → Redwood National Park → Crescent City → Harrisburg / USA (426 Kilometers)

The power was still not back. On the drive, further north, we heard on the radio that the power in the entire northern part of the state of California would be turned off for at least the next 4 days. This measure is taken for safety reasons, to prevent the fire from spreading further in case a power pole falls. We were somewhat glad that we were already driving to the next state today.

Our first destination was the Redwood National Park. Here, almost 50% of the natural population of coastal redwoods, the tallest trees on Earth, grow. The park runs along the California coast and we were able to comfortably drive the Coastal Highway 101 all the way through. We stopped at the Elk Prairie. We saw many elk deer. They were happily grazing and allowed themselves to be photographed calmly. Our next stop was at the Big Tree. At only 1500 years old, it has already reached a height of 87 meters. During our walk through the forest, we discovered many large clovers, small mushrooms, more very tall trees, trees growing on the trunks of other trees, and a corkscrew tree. This landscape is incomparable to our forests.

Our next destination for today was the city of Crescent City. The small city is situated directly by the sea in a picturesque setting. It has a wide beach and a small lighthouse. We enjoyed freshly caught fish before continuing on to Harrisburg for an overnight stay.
