The day started with a fabulous breakfast at 'prefab' in the city center of Wellington. Before that, we returned our rental car, which had about 1300 km more on the odometer after our tour :)) We drove around quite a bit on the North Island of New Zealand!! By the way, we got used to driving on the left side of the road very well after half a day!
Afterwards, we decided to visit the nearby Te Papa Tongarewa Museum. We spent about 3 hours there. The historical and cultural exhibitions about the Māori, European, and Pacific immigrants were very interesting. The exhibitions about modern New Zealand were also impressive. We highly recommend the museum, even though we couldn't remember all the Māori terms, which sometimes made it a bit difficult to read and understand the texts. We especially liked the exhibition about the geology of New Zealand and the light and shadow rooms!
In the evening, we strolled along the harbor promenade, discovered 'Bubble Soccer', a climbing hall, several dragon boat teams, and enjoyed delicious tacos at Boquita. It was Taco Tuesday after all ;-)) Unfortunately, we couldn't spot a 'Tacocat' :D It was cloudy throughout the day, and when we were at Boquita, it started raining heavily and it was also windy. That was not cool at all!! We actually wanted to go to Mount Victoria for a lookout, but we had to take the bus directly to our accommodation. For those interested: it cost 3.5 NZ dollars per person for one ride. By the way, do they say 'it is raining cats and dogs' here or rather 'it is raining kiwis and sheep'?? Maybe we'll find out? Hopefully, we won't experience it again ourselves :-)
So, that was the day in Wellington, the city that you usually only know from the risky board game. And while we listened to the rustling of the trees in the wind, we fell asleep happily... Good night Janina, good night Jörg, good night Wellington, good night to the last night on the North Island!
