After surviving the night in the tent with a whopping 5 blankets, we continued with our "favorite activity" of packing our backpacks.
We walked to the "Church of the Good Shepherd" which had such a great location. It was flooded with tourists, but since we got the tip about the church yesterday from the lady who gave us a ride all the way to Christchurch, we just had to see it.
Then we went back to the accommodation to pick up our backpacks and then we went cross-country, up the hill to the road to hitchhike. After about 15 minutes, an elderly lady and her son picked us up, and then dropped us off at a busy road about 1-2 hours later. Shortly after, a small campervan/bus full of Asians stopped and picked us up, and after a few stops along the way, they took us to Wanaka.
During the ride, the question of where we were actually going to sleep today kept haunting us. After realizing that all accommodations were fully booked, Lea suddenly remembered that we got some contacts from Janine (Wellington) and among them was a number of a friend in Wanaka. I called Lynda as a completely unknown person, and her husband answered the phone. He was very surprised but still invited us. About half an hour later, the Asians dropped us off at the front door. Upon arrival, Rob greeted us and led us through this luxurious house directly to our room. After a short small talk and some relaxation, we went to the lake, where to our surprise, we saw the tree in the lake which I have seen many pictures of and actually wanted to see.
Afterwards, we went to the cafe and had some ice cream. Later, we played cards by the lake, went shopping, and then returned to our accommodation. Shortly after, we also met Lynda, cooked, consumed the wine and chocolate that we brought as a small thank you gift, and now it's time for bed since I have to wake up again in 3 hours... 🙄
There will be a story about it tomorrow ;)
Bye Bye 👋🏼
