Lamington National Park

Objavljeno: 16.02.2017

The Lamington National Park is located about 1 hour's drive from Surfers Paradise. We rented two cars and set off on a Saturday in January to explore the national park. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate and it rained a bit from time to time, making the view not very clear. For the first time since my stay in Australia, I also saw wallabies in the wild. And they make really crazy noises. It sounds exactly like a baby crying.

Oh, and I had to use the bathroom again. There was a toilet at the parking lot. But it took a lot of courage for me to go in. I've heard too many stories about spiders lurking in wilderness toilets, so I always have to look under the toilet seat beforehand to make sure there's no creature hiding there. Spiders in particular like to hide there. Of course, I did NOT do that. I didn't want to know what creatures were underneath. In a state of panic, with a racing heart and a hunched head (as if that would protect me from spiders ;-)), I went into the bathroom. But everything was fine and I didn't see any animals inside (they were probably all hiding under the toilet seat ;-)).

After our tour, we wanted to drive to a waterfall that was only 20 minutes away by car. The special thing about this waterfall is that the pool is a heart-shaped water hole in the rocks. This water hole is called Killarny Glen and is located, like the national parks, in the 'Gold Coast Hinterland'. Yes, it really is called 'Hinterland'. I have already noticed a few words here that are clearly of German origin. Even on the way to the national park, there was a wooden sign by the roadside indicating a road off the main road. It was a typical German word, I don't remember exactly, but I think it was 'Berghütte'.

Anyway, we set off for the waterfall. When we arrived there, we were immediately waved away by the police. They had closed off the entire area because a young man drowned in the water hole at the end of December. I guess many tourists ignore the restricted area and simply climb over it. That's why the police have to stand guard there and send the tourists away.
