What could be more beautiful..?

Actually, we wanted to stay in Matheson Bay. The problem was: no supplies, no supermarkets. So there were two options.

1. We drive 50km to a supermarket where you can get everything and then back again, or

2. We continue heading north, which was our plan anyway, and do our shopping there and look for a good campsite.

Ok, there are also other options, like not going anywhere and eating shells and filtering saltwater to drink. But that was a bit too extreme for us.

So we decided on the second option and continued heading north.

Let's talk about something else for a moment: Anyone who thinks that the roads in Germany are sometimes really bad... Come to New Zealand. Here, people are happy if there are even roads at all. Unless you're in big cities, it's all about hitting the road, the gravel road.

Ok, I'm exaggerating, there are a few more roads here, but they're all worse than the worst one in Germany. There's a reason why all the cars here look the way they look - totally dented. You won't find as many potholes anywhere else.

So where was I, let me think. Oh yeah: So we're heading north, from Matheson Bay towards Whangarei. That was about 73km, 15 of which were gravel road. Downhill. Cliff next to us. Barely any space. My brake pads will thank me later..

Once we arrived in Whangarei, I realized that $2 per liter of petrol is not the standard. It only costs $1.79 here. If only I had known that earlier..

Now we're in Onerahi. I would say it's a small district of Whangarei. With supermarkets. Wonderful.

There are plenty of free campsites here and I think we found the best one. Right by the sea, you couldn't get any closer. A dream.

I think we'll stay in the area for a while, check out the other campsites, and maybe even find work here. We'll see...
