Hello everyone, we are back online.
There wasn't much to tell from yesterday. We had a 9-hour drive and were very tired. After an overpriced meal from the delivery service, we soon listened to our pillows.
Our breakfast at the Super 8 in Webster was modest. Coffee (very important) and toast. That's all we need.
Today, we spent almost the whole day at the Space Center in Houston. It was a 10-minute drive from the motel and we were there.
The Space Center is very impressive. Everything about space, rockets, and astronauts is explained very clearly. The staff is very friendly and willing to answer questions. There is also a 1.5-hour tour included in the price. Of course, we also participated in it. The first stop on the tour was the Mission Control Center. We were in the room from which people communicated with the astronauts during the moon landing! Incredibly impressive! A somewhat older gentleman told us all about the room. What is also very impressive is that just one floor below is the current communication room. This means that the tour takes place partially on government property and therefore has strict guidelines.
The second stop is the Test Center. This is where all new modules for the astronauts are developed. There are also already used parts available for viewing.
Unfortunately, the tour was cancelled afterwards due to the strong storm. But even with just the two things mentioned above, it was more than worth it.
So we were busy for about 5 hours and didn't notice how time flew by.
Originally, the plan was to drive towards Austin around noon. It got a bit delayed, but it's no big deal.
The originally 4-hour drive was unfortunately a bit longer than planned.
We encountered another thunderstorm.
Unfortunately, the stars weren't aligned with our orientation either.
After what felt like 300 wrong turns, 150 U-turns, and countless insults from the navigation system, we finally found the way.
We plan to stay here for at least 3-4 days. Austin and the surrounding area are supposed to have many beautiful and interesting things to see.
We'll keep you updated ;)
