Day 19 - Once across the Equator, Bogotá here we come!

After staying at Leticia Guest House (recommended), we crossed over to Peru (official departure) and then re-entered Colombia officially. That was part 2 of the visa run, Julia now had a valid visa for 3 months again and we were back in the country legally, goal achieved. If we hadn't done that, Julia may have had problems when leaving (returning to Germany). At the very least, she would have had to pay at least €150 for overstaying.

After that, we went to the airport. Each of the three major Colombian airlines flies to Bogotá once a day. The flight with crossing the equator went smoothly and was only 30 minutes delayed.

In Bogotá, we booked an Airbnb. A very nice landlord who speaks German exceptionally well by local standards. For me, that's really pleasant - I can have a conversation. I understand almost everything in Spanish - at least everyday Spanish. But unfortunately, I can only respond in individual words or simple sentences. If someone comes here without any knowledge of Spanish, they have a real problem. Okay, people with money won't starve and there are also hand and feet gestures, but it's very rare for a Colombian to speak English. I've often thought about whether I could manage without Julia. I'm sure I could, but the fact that Julia can communicate very well here is a huge advantage.

In our Airbnb, we first washed clothes and later went shopping ✅ for breakfast.

Our landlord Santiago also lives in this house. We have a room and a bathroom for ourselves and can use all the other rooms as well as the kitchen. Santiago explained various things to us and slowly I suspect that he is related to Jaime (our Hessi-James from Filandia) 😂

By the way, we are in a safe area here, but every house is fenced and additionally secured with barbed wire. You get used to it quickly.

Bogotá is located at 2,600 m above sea level on a high plateau, and the surrounding mountains are even higher. I think we could already go skiing in Ischgl at this altitude. It's really cold compared to the past few days, in the evening I wore long pants and long sleeves (I didn't even have a jacket in my luggage). Julia did and she wore it too.

After many days of Colombian cuisine, we felt like trying something different and went for sushi 🍣. The Japanese guy at Sumo Sushi did a really good job. The gay Colombian waiter wasn't quite as competent, but: All good!
