Today we weren't particularly work-hungry. After mucking out, we each worked 1 horse. Then we were told that a horse in the pasture had injured its head. It should come in, otherwise the flies will lay eggs in it. So Nick and I tried... The mare is not stupid! After someone had already tried and failed before us, I tried first and then Nick tried. She let us touch her, but as soon as we moved the halter even a few centimeters, she fled with her foal. It got hot, so we took a lunch break and made another healthy salad. Nick reminded me that I had promised to make him a tiramisu for a long time, 'he always has to eat the bought ones'! :) So I made one, quite laborious without a mixer in the caravan. Since it got so hot, Nick set up a 'shower' for the horses with the garden hose. The horses enjoyed being sprinkled with cold water! Then we tried our luck again in the pasture with the mare... without success. We will leave her in the pasture for another night and try again tomorrow. For the horse enthusiasts reading this: We will post a picture of the hooves of a young foal - top! And then one of a horse with laminitis, really impressive and bad!
The rider who had to go to the hospital yesterday was brought to a larger hospital today by ambulance to have the situation assessed by a specialist. The young stallion she was riding in the arena yesterday just took off, throwing her against the wall. It is suspected that the cervical vertebra was then injured by the edge of the riding helmet. She also broke several ribs. We wish her all the best and hope she recovers soon!
A guest who also helped us with the work with the horses will leave tomorrow. That's why we're going out to eat together one last time today.
