Floating markets in Can tho

Before heading towards Cambodia, we made a small stopover in Can tho. There is a floating market on the Mekong River.

Since the market is always in the morning, we were picked up from the hostel at 5:15 am by taxi. We shared a small boat with Chiara and Marvin and had our super friendly English guide Tao with us. When we got on the boat, it was still dark and we enjoyed the sunrise with a delicious coffee and tea. It is incredible how many people are already out and about at this time in the morning, many of them exercising and escaping the hot temperatures during the day.

After about half an hour, we arrived at the first floating market. The market consists of several vendor boats selling food or other goods, and of course the buyers with their own boats. Each vendor boat has a long mast where the vendor attaches their goods (e.g. salad, potatoes, fruits, etc.). There are also small boats selling food everywhere. We also enjoyed our breakfast on the boat!

We then continued for about an hour to the next market. Along the way, our guide Tao surprised us with a delicious pineapple she had just bought at the market. However, the second market was much smaller and mainly had fruits and vegetables. Tao once again bought a lot and we made a small stop at the shore. There, she presented us with various fruits, some of which we had never seen before and cannot buy in Germany, such as the milk fruit or the frog fruit (no, it's not a frog and it tastes very unusual but delicious=).

We finished the fruit plate and could relax in the hammocks for a while.

Then it was time to go back. On the way back, we took a detour through a remote canal. The small river meandered through the green and was much calmer than the main river.

We booked this tour through the Tao Anh Guesthouse and can highly recommend it, it is definitely worth the money!

Another highlight were the three little puppies that belonged to the hostel. Chiara and I spent hours with them and got a good dose of cuddles=)

The day was a beautiful farewell to our trip through Vietnam. A country that had worried me a bit before due to its history, but clearly proved me wrong, even though we unfortunately had quite bad luck with the weather. Maybe that's why it's definitely a reason to come here again someday!
