Bangkok: Same, same but different...

Публикувано: 24.08.2017

Wanted to spend a few days in Bangkok before our next short layover in Vienna. Even though it's a megacity, you feel right at home here. We found a nice hotel near the famous Khaosan Road.

One thing you shouldn't miss here is a visit to one, or better yet, several street food stalls. Despite maybe not sounding so appealing, it's definitely worth a try. The typical national dish 'Pad Thai' tastes excellent everywhere. But there's also no shortage of excellent restaurants on every corner.

For food connoisseurs who prefer exotic creatures, there's a lot to offer here;).

Grilled scorpions, tarantulas, maggots, frogs, giant cockroaches, and much more are offered here on Khaosan Road. A young, adventurous Frenchman who tried scorpion said it wasn't that bad. But he didn't seem particularly enthusiastic about this taste experience;).

In Bangkok, there are also many tourists from all over the world. Although plenty of cocktails and beer are consumed in the many bars and restaurants, everything is very relaxed and peaceful.

Perhaps everyone is so relaxed here because Thai massages are offered everywhere. Even young visitors appreciate that...

At least superficially, it seems that 'being different' is more tolerated in many ways here than it is customary for us. That has impressed us a lot.

Also impressive are the many street vendors who accept countless failed attempts to sell their souvenirs with a smile and still don't lose their friendliness and humor.

Tuk-tuks made from beverage cans are made here

Highly recommended is a ride with the boat taxis and the Skytrain, as you can enjoy beautiful views of the city.

We visited Wat Pho with the famous giant reclining Buddha.

Difficult to capture in the photo, but it's 15m high and 46m long!

Tomorrow we'll continue to Delhi and the day after we'll be back in Vienna. We're already looking forward to seeing family and friends again...
