Citydays in beautiful and warm Lima

Апублікавана: 02.04.2019

After just under three weeks in Peru, we arrived in Lima and spent two days in the Miraflores district. At the cozy and centrally located Alpes Hostel, we were able to prepare for our final destination, Ecuador. Besides some errands that we could easily take care of here in Lima, there wasn't much on the agenda.

On Sunday, we explored the Miraflores area and the adjacent neighborhood of Barranco on foot. First, we walked along the elevated promenade on the cliffs by the sea. The whole city seemed to be out and about, and there was a lively atmosphere in all the small and large squares or in the parks. By chance, we also discovered an alternative market where there was vegan and gluten-free pizza - a great snack for in between. We also passed by Kennedy Park and left a small donation for the local cat rescue organization - in good thoughts of our cat back home.

We spent the second day mostly in the historic center. With Pablo, our stylishly dressed driver, whom we had arranged through a colleague of Mathias' father, we drove to the Plaza de Armas. He explained the surrounding old buildings from the colonial period, showed us some monuments, and after a short visit to the cathedral, we watched the changing of the guard in front of the government palace. The ceremony lasted almost 45 minutes in total, accompanied by traditional flag marches, and was a bit like the scene in front of Buckingham Palace in London - very stiff and formal.

Other than that, we mostly enjoyed the sun in Lima, planned our stay in Ecuador a bit, and ate delicious seafood. We could have done much more in Peru - as we could have in every country so far - but now we are moving on after three weeks to visit Ecuador. Our grand finale awaits us. See you soon!
