Hello and welcome back to 'SoloHikingToLakeGarda'!
.... a 'crossing of the Alps', from Munich to Venice. Wow, that must be it, that's the solution ....
Yes, exactly, I was absolutely sure that it would be great. So I told my hiking nephew (behind me in the picture) about my idea.
I was sure that he would find it just as great as I did.
Well, he didn't think so at all. He said that it would be totally boring to walk from Munich, or Muck as he calls it, to the mountains. He said it was absolutely impossible.
Well, I thought, there must be other possibilities and routes. And indeed, a TV report (Come on, let's keep hiking - From Meran to Lake Garda) gave me the idea to hike from Meran to Lake Garda.
An illustrious group consisting of young and old, and with a dog, set off on the way and the idea grew in me that this might actually be something for me. OK, it became clear to me pretty quickly that I didn't want to walk in such a group or on the same route.
So I asked the hiking nephew again. Yeah, no problem, we'll find something. That was his answer, more or less. And at the end of March it was time to get down to business. We searched through the map section at 'Globetrotter' in Munich and found what we were looking for.
At home, we spread out the maps on the floor and got started. Two grown men crawled over the floor and searched the maps for routes that I could manage (please note 'My Qualifications' - coming soon here on SoloHikingToLakeGarda).
Sven saw something, I didn't see much because I reached my limits - does everything have to be printed so small? And at the same time, we pushed the route planner alpenvereinaktiv to its limits. By the way, this route planner is absolutely amazing!
Not to forget the list of equipment that I have to take with me, how to pack it and what to do without. Just to mention it, I will be on the road for a week and should only take 2 pairs of underwear with me. Yeah, 2! In words 'TWO'!? What does this hint mean? What does he think, how big are my underpants, that I can save sooooo much weight if I only take 2 pairs? But equipment and luggage are a completely different topic. But more about that later under 'My Equipment'.
But now back to route planning. With all the information, notes, and the now existing half knowledge, well, maybe a bit less, I made my way home and started planning the details a few weeks later...
But more about that soon under 'The Route in Detail' on SoloHikingToLakeGarda.
P.S. I would be happy if you mark the reports with 'likes' and possibly even share them on Facebook. Thank you very much!
P.S. 1: Oh yes, the comment function is also activated!
