Lonely and surrounded by swamps, the port of Port Canaveral is about 20 miles away from the Kennedy Space Center (KSC). If you want to know something about space travel, this is the right place to be. Upon entering in the early morning, to our great delight, the Mein Schiff 6 was accompanied not only by the usual police boat but also by a school of dolphins. The KSC was already visible from our ship and, of course, was also the destination of our day trip. A bus took us to the entrance and from there we had almost 7 hours at our disposal. We had already informed ourselves in advance about the best order to visit the attractions. So we started our tour in the Atlantis Hall. Here you can learn everything about the Space Shuttle program and also admire the Atlantis, a real Space Shuttle, in its original form. We were lucky and almost alone here. After a dramatic film with moving music, a gate opened and the Atlantis stood before us. Wow!! The spaceship made a real impression in this staged setting. After we had looked at it from all sides, we continued to the simulator. Here you can see what it feels like when the Space Shuttle takes off. Well, there was a lot of shaking and rumbling. Then came the very emotional "Walk of Heroes". Here, films, pictures, and personal items remind us of the astronauts who were tragically killed during the launch of the Challenger and the re-entry of the Columbia. After a lunch consisting of burgers, we were curious about the bus tour. We drove around the grounds once. We were able to admire various halls and launch pads. The area is really surrounded by many rivers, lakes, and swamps, so there are not only countless employees and volunteers, but also crocodiles. Fortunately, none of them ate us. So we were able to explore the Apollo Hall. Here, everything revolves around the conquest of the moon and we were able to examine an Apollo spacecraft and learn about the history of moon landing. The whole thing was made very exciting. Back at the main entrance, we visited the IMAXX cinema (film about the planned conquest of Mars), the Rocket Garden (where Jessi unexpectedly called us), and the Hall of Fame. Packed with patriotic knowledge about space travel, we returned to the ship around 3:30 p.m. Here, we first recovered from the "strains" with a cocktail at the Außenalsterbar. After dinner, we listened to the solo performance by the singer Anna Knock in the studio. It was really beautiful to see what the native Bavarian brought to the stage musically. At 9:30 p.m., a pool party was announced. The atmosphere here was really great. People danced, sang, and rocked the ship until midnight. The DJ played really good music and everyone clearly had a lot of fun. The mood was further fueled by the theater ensemble. We danced a lot and enjoyed the evening to the fullest. We have never experienced such a great party on any Mein Schiff before.
