Today let's start with Maxi's favorite quote of the past few days.
'That's part of a road trip!'
According to that, the following belongs:
- stay in a hotel that we might not have chosen ourselves (once in San Simeon, but it wasn't a disaster 😁 - typical American motel)
- drive without a navigation system (yes, we actually manage to navigate using maps like in the old days)
- avoid major roads and use many small roads - that's the way to experience the real America
- get lost and end up on a road in the middle of nowhere that just doesn't go any further (see picture)
After almost a week (and because there isn't much to tell today since we've been mostly in the car), here's our first USA summary:
America is just like you know it from the movies and so much more:
1. the people are EXTREMELY friendly and helpful.
2. the roads really go straight for miles.
3. the American beer tastes just as strange here.
4. everything is incredibly expensive here. Even a small grocery shopping in a supermarket will cost you $60 (about €55) in no time.
5. even in California, it's not always 30 degrees. But with about 20 degrees during the day, it's still very pleasant here!
6. there's no way around fast food.
7. with enough money, you can eat healthy here too.
All in all, this part of the USA is very diverse and incredibly worth seeing. Truly a fantastic piece of land.
Now back to us. Currently, we are in Santa Barbara. This city was rebuilt in Spanish style after an earthquake in the 20's - and that's exactly how it feels here 💃🏻.
The 'old town' rightly deserves the name Riviera of the West Coast.
After arriving at our hotel, we lay in the pool under palm trees and hummingbirds flying around - that's how to live life 😎.
So that we can feel a bit at home even in the USA, we are currently sitting in the 'Hoffmann Brat Haus' 😂
A German restaurant in the middle of Santa Barbara. Finally, we can have German beer too - see point 3 above 😄
Appropriately, today there is a 'talented' brass band trio playing 😂😂
Tomorrow, we will spend the whole day exploring Santa Barbara. There will also be pictures 😉
See you soon,
Maxi and Verena
