The island in the south of Thailand is the last destination on my journey through Thailand. I had heard that the island is beautiful and not so touristy.
My hostel was located in the south of the island near a beautiful beach with unfortunately very little shade.
At the mentioned beach, there was a party on New Year's Eve. Before the fireworks, there was a fire show - and the show was opened with the song 'Du Hast' by Rammstein - awesome :D
For the next day, I booked a snorkeling tour - the so-called 4 Island Tour.
In the morning, I was picked up at the hostel and taken to Lanta Old Town. From there, we went by longtail boat to Koh Chuek and Koh Maa - the first stops for snorkeling. Both islands cannot be entered as they are only rocks in the water. There were fish, but not many different species.
Koh Mook is the highlight of the tour. From the sea, you swim through a cave about 80 meters long and then reach an island surrounded by rocks - the so-called Emerald Cave. Very beautiful but unfortunately, very crowded.
On the beautifully beautiful island of Koh Ngai, there was lunch on the beach and a little time for snorkeling, swimming, relaxing or walking on the beach. The return trip to Koh Lanta was not so pleasant. due to the sea waves, the boat was rocking quite a bit.
The Emerald Cave and Koh Ngai are indeed beautiful to look at, but it is simply too touristy and I would not do the tour again. And Koh Lanta itself did not convince me either. The island may be less touristy than others, but it is definitely not quiet. Since the roads are sometimes very bad, I did not rent a scooter to explore the island. Also, during the transfers I had on the island, I did not see anything that I really liked.
The most beautiful island I visited in Thailand was Koh Kood for me - the island is really not very touristy and has wonderfully beautiful sandy beaches :)
