Arrived in Florac

প্ৰকাশিত: 12.06.2024

After several hours of driving from Entrechaux via Alès, we have now arrived in Florac in the Gorges du Tarn in the heart of the Cévennes. "Florac" somehow sounds like "flowers", but the difference to Provence couldn't be greater. There are sunlit plains, clay-tiled houses with blue shutters, broom and endless vines. There are grey brick houses, some with slate roofs, all around dark forests on steep slopes, interrupted by deep valleys. And some things have seen better days. The charm of the south is increasingly giving way to a certain austerity and severity. At least that is the case at first glance - the change couldn't be greater. But Florac has a waterfall in the middle of the village. And it is home to a brand new park information center and has been the seat of the Parc National des Cévennes since 1970. The Cévennes are recognized as a biosphere reserve and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park administration is located in the Château de Florac. Let's see what else awaits us here.
