Once again today it was: set the alarm & wake up early. Today's mission: Mekong Safari.
Yesterday we met a Dutch couple who wanted the same as us. So we decided to book the same tour and off we went.
Pick up from the hotel and then 28km with the TukTuk - four of us - on unpaved roads - hello back 😃😂.
Switched to a 2-person kayak and off we went downstream on the Mekong. Here it is still relatively clean and of course we refreshed ourselves after a little break. Our guide 'Lucky' provided a small culinary highlight. Typically Cambodian style, there was 'sticky rice' with beans and nuts in a bamboo stick.
'Lucky' is not his real name, but easier to remember. 😄
After being strengthened, we wanted to see dolphins 🐬. Dolphins? Although we are not by the sea, there is a rare and endangered dolphin species in the Mekong. The Irrawaddy dolphin.
After a very rough river crossing, 5 pairs of eyes now looked at the water and searched for spouts, fins or the like.
And then it happened: here and there you could see fins splashing, water spouts, and dolphins taking a breath of air. We brought the camera with us, but unfortunately they were too fast for suitable snapshots.
We stayed with our kayak for a while and were able to observe these unique creatures up close in their natural habitat. Unfortunately, the population of these animals is decreasing every year. Previously, these dolphins could even be caught and killed, but now this is prohibited by the government and efforts are being made to protect them.
After this trip, we are pretty exhausted and will plan our next destinations.
Two things to smile about:
1. Thanks to our guide 'Lucky' (Glücklich) we had luck today and saw these interesting animals.
2. My sweetheart (Falk) lost his 2nd !!!!!! pair of sunglasses on vacation today. He gave them to the Mekong. He hopes that someday in the near future there will be a photo with a dolphin and his sunglasses on Instagram. So keep an eye out 😂😂😂
