Hi guys,
it's me again! After 3 days of new experiences, there's a bit to tell!😊
In summary, we drove quite a bit further north. Along the way, we made several stops and experienced a lot.
So, when we left our idyllic campsite in the middle of the river in the morning, our next stop was "Yeppoon". Here, we took about an hour-long hike, unfortunately in the middle of the midday sun. Despite the warm weather, we enjoyed the view and especially the gust of wind at the lookout point. We had now reached the southern beginning of the "Great Barrier Reef" and could see it, some islands, and turquoise blue water from here!
It was a great view, and on the way back, we even spotted some sea turtles floating in the water!
Afterwards, we cooled off in a public swimming pool and, of course, used the showers provided there.
The next day, we continued further north until we finally arrived in the next major city called "Mackay". We spent the day here, mainly enjoying the air conditioning in the different stores, because it was already hot again. In the meantime, we took care of a few matters regarding our car registration, which all went well.
In the evening, we drove towards the campsite, enjoying a beautiful sunset. After another about 500km north, the nature has changed quite a bit here. It's clearly more tropical, mountainous, but also very green and beautiful here.
We spent the night at a campsite located in a mountain valley and both slept well.
Today, something very special was on the agenda. We went on a search for the "platypus". Since they only occur in Australia, we naturally set out to spot one. As the region around "Mackay" is famous for the numerous presence of platypuses, we went on the search. It led us to the "Broken River". According to the internet, this is the best place in the world to spot platypuses, and what can I say! After a bit of waiting and patience, it finally happened! We were lucky and were able to observe our first platypus. Super cool!
We enjoyed the nature by the river and watched our new friend.
Soon, we headed to an observation platform that really amazed us. After a short walk through a beautiful forest, we suddenly had a view over the entire valley. It was surrounded by mountains, a truly incredible view. We had it all to ourselves and enjoyed it for some time.
It's always great when spontaneous stops like this result in something so amazing.
Afterwards, we drove back to the city and once again used a public swimming pool to cool off and take a shower.
Tonight, we're staying at the most beautiful campsite of our trip so far. About 40km north of "Mackay" is "Cape Hillsborough", where we found a campsite right by the sea. In the midst of nature, we prepared our dinner here and discovered many new animals that were curious about us, just like every other day here.
I'm already looking forward to being woken up by the waves tomorrow and enjoying the first coffee of the day under a palm tree right by the sea.
Greetings from Cape Hillsborough, Australia!🇦🇺
Your Tim!
