Further Netherlands: from Nijmegen to Utrecht

Wɔatintim: 12.08.2024

Adjacent to our hotel is the (only) Dutch bicycle museum. Unfortunately, we were too late for a visit and too early the next morning. But we found the next tour bicycles. Maria gets this with the horse:

Nijmegen: Dutch Bicycle Museum

The city is relaxed and so are we in fresh dry clothes. We stroll through the harbor area and the old town. The shops here close at 6 PM and people enjoy sitting in the evening sun, winding down the day. At 5:59 PM, we managed to buy a new gas cartridge for the stove on Marikenstraat. Lucky us.

Nijmegen: Marikenstraat
Nijmegen: ingeniously built different city levels

It's quite exciting: we keep encountering exhibits or events that deal with the consequences of World War II. At the department store HEMA, several display boards regarding the bombing on February 22, 1944, are set up in the windows. The HEMA building was also hit back then.

After dinner, we enjoy wine at Pier17 by the Waal and appreciate the relaxed atmosphere of the city. The Pannenkoekenboot returns from its last trip and then goes to bed.

We had lunch in Wijk bij Duurstede. Michael had 'croquettes filled with beef', apparently a Dutch specialty. In the culinary dispatch, you can get the goods in a 35 x 80 g package for about 19.00 euros (with comparatively low minimum orders). With 2 croquettes and two slices of bread for 11.00 euros for sale, it results in a decent rate for the cost of goods used. Unfortunately, that doesn't make the food any better. ;)
