Day 19: Visit to the 'Spiky's'

Wɔatintim: 05.06.2019

Today we want to explore the island of Krk. One thing we have already found out. Vowels are scarce here. Apart from that, the island has a lot to offer. Marik has discovered a stalactite cave in the travel guide and wants to take a look at a 'spiky cave'. We decide to fulfill his wish today, as it is warm but quite cloudy. He explains to us on the way there that you have to be quiet in the cave because hedgehogs sleep there. Krk is not particularly big, and so we reach the other end of the island in half an hour's drive.

The small stalactite cave is located near the village of Rudine. The cave is very small but beautiful.

Marik is fascinated. Leo is awake and her cheerful giggling echoes through the cave. We seem to have scared away the hedgehogs because we can't find any. But we do find the skeleton of a large bear that was found here.

When we are back on the surface, we take a walk through the area. The landscape there reminds us a lot of Scotland. Marik is stomping ahead, as he often does on this vacation. There are very few tourists here, and we enjoy the peace and quiet.

On the way back, we have to fight our way through a flock of sheep. We go to eat and then go to a 'mud bath'.

Here, in the flat, sheltered bay of Soline, there are almost only sandy beaches. At one point, there is the famous healing mud. This almost black, sulfur-scented mud is found in small pools on the beach. We see a few people completely covering themselves with it. Marik is initially very hesitant and does not want to get dirty. In the end, however, he has a lot of fun wading through the pools with me.

When the children become grumpy with tiredness, we drive back to Krk. In the evenings, just like the previous days, we jump into the pool. Tomorrow we will continue to Istria.
