Death Road - La Paz

Wɔatintim: 14.04.2019

One of the most dangerous roads in the world to ride a bike down? 45 kilometers downhill along a several hundred meter deep gorge? On a road barely 2 meters wide? Absolutely!

Fully suspended mountain bike, helmet, knee and elbow protectors under wind jacket and pants, and you're ready to go on the famous and infamous Death Road, which connects the mountains and jungle. In the past, up to 225 people died here every year - when this was the only connection to the jungle. However, today the name is no longer a program: the road is almost only used by tourists on bicycles, motorized vehicles now use the safe, two-lane and paved road on the other side of the gorge.

It was still exciting to ride down there: always downhill on the partially muddy gravel road, steep cliff on the left, the several hundred meter deep gorge on the right side of the road, passing through small waterfalls, the breathtaking landscape always in view - but also not too much in view, as you should still watch the road...!

Now we are officially "Death Road Survivor," as the t-shirt proves that we received as a reward at the end, before we let our downhill-tortured rear recover at the buffet!
