Tag 239: Washington, D.C.

Wɔatintim: 08.10.2017

10:15 AM. The historic buildings of Washington, D.C. pass us by through the dirty window of the bus. It's raining. We just said goodbye to Eric. Eric is a friend of a friend of Sabrina's and lives in Alexandria, a picturesque city just outside of Washington, D.C., with his wife, two children, and dog. His house was our residence for the past two weeks while the Wagner family was on vacation. It was perfect for us. The dog gave us a reason to get up early in the morning and take three walks a day. From the beautiful house in idyllic Alexandria, we ventured out to explore Washington, D.C. The capital of the United States has a lot to offer. Mainly history and art. Fortunately, almost all museums and culturally significant buildings in this city have free admission. And so we improved our historical knowledge a bit. We visited the 'National Museum of Natural History', the 'National Museum of African American History and Culture', the 'United States Holocaust Memorial Museum', the 'National Museum of American History', the 'Library of Congress' (the largest library in the world), visited George Washington's former house and property, and saw about a dozen other monuments of various presidents and important people in American history. So we had a week decorated like a history class at the university. The highlight of our stay, however, was visiting our new family in Charlottesville. Together, we had a raclette, ate, drank, laughed, and spent the night in Washington, D.C. A successful conclusion. In a few hours, we will reach New York City.
