Sun and freezing

Ishicilelwe: 07.06.2021

The area around Stavanger is not only known for Preikestolen, but also for white sandy beaches. And that's exactly where we went on Sunday. We took the bus to Sola Strand, which is right next to the airport. But there's not much air traffic there. During the time we were there, only a helicopter shuttled between the airport and the small inhabited islands off the coast. The weather was still fantastic, but the wind had picked up. Overall, a light breeze had been blowing around us since Friday. And maybe it was the amount of time or the air conditioning on the bus or the person sneezing without a mask on, but we caught a really bad cold over the weekend. Funny enough, Pia got the cold exactly one day after me. We still enjoyed the day at the beach. And we even went in for a short moment. But it was really freezing cold, because it wasn't a fjord, but really open, unprotected sea. Beforehand, we had dipped our feet and had already experienced a shock frost, but we stuck to our decision and went through with it. On the way back to the city, we took a different bus that went through various residential areas. In the south of Stavanger, everything looks very new and planned. There are many modern residential complexes, but I wouldn't want to live there. We also passed by the university, but what we saw was unspectacular. Later, we walked through the old town of Stavanger, which is really tiny compared to Bergen. But then we walked around the area around our hostel and that's when I really liked Stavanger. But the vibe of the city is completely different. More of a working city than a university city. On Monday, we took the bus back to Bergen. The weekend trip was great, in our opinion, you don't need more time for Stavanger. The only unwelcome souvenir was the cold, which made us a bit sluggish during the remaining days in Bergen.
