On Wednesday 10/24 we finally headed towards Yellowstone National Park from Rexburg. On the way there, we passed through our 5th state (Montana).
Before entering the National Park, we visited the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone. Here, animals are housed that would not survive in the wild or pose a threat to humans. For example, one of the grizzly bears learned to search for food in trash cans from its mother and therefore always wandered around settlements. Since even relocation attempts did not solve the problem, he was taken in by the center. We witnessed a feeding with the wolves. Live fish were released into the water in the enclosure so that the wolves could hunt them.
Then we went to Yellowstone, which is mainly located in our 6th state, Wyoming. We were greeted by a herd of deer and an incredibly beautiful landscape. Anglers were scattered everywhere in the Madison River.
The first waterfalls we visited were the Firehole Falls. Then we already came to the geysers. The colors, the steam, and the smells are indescribable.
The first geyser was the White Dome Geyser. Then we went to the Grand Prismatic Spring. And then to Old Faithful. Unfortunately, I missed the eruption of Old Faithful because I quickly went to the car to get my jacket. Marcel, however, was there. I then sat down and really wanted to wait for the next eruption. 1.5 hours later, it was time. By now the sun had come out as well. And I have to say, even though I sat in the cold for 1.5 hours, it was absolutely worth it!
Marcel was not so excited, as there were still several stops in the park that we absolutely had to see.
The route continued through the south past Yellowstone Lake. And then through Hayden Valley, unfortunately we couldn't see any bisons or other large animals. Another highlight were the Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River. Together with the sunset, this canyon and the waterfalls were beautifully staged.
On this evening, we managed to buy gin in time. I felt like I was buying enriched uranium...
