Ishicilelwe: 15.03.2020
Thursday, 12.03.2020: We leave the rainy Airlie Beach and drive to Cape Hillsborough. After renting the pitch, we take the Andrews Point Track, which is a circular walk at low tide and partly along the beach. The beach section is not passable at high tide, so we have to walk back the same way.
Friday, 13.03.2020: Wake up at 5:30 am and go to the beach, sunrise at 6:00 am. Then the kangaroos gather and eat the seagrass that has washed ashore overnight. After breakfast, we drive to Rockhampton, crossing the 10,000 km mark. Rockhampton is a larger city with an unusual old town for Australian standards, also known as the Beef Capital of Australia. We gladly accept the recommendation from the tourist information to do the Heritage Walk. It passes very well restored houses like the Harbour Board Building, Customs House, Old Post Office to the Criterion Hotel, where we enjoy our dinner with steak and salmon. We stay at a free spot right next to Kershaw Gardens, a beautiful park with a waterfall.
Saturday, 14.03.2020: Departure to Bundaberg. First, we organize the next few days, then we explore the city and find the Bargara Brewing Company, where we end the day with a cold beer. There is so much to see and experience, for example, macadamia plantations with over 195,000 trees.
Sunday, 15.03.2020: Early in the morning, we go to the Bundaberg Rum Distillery, where we take a detailed guided tour. Afterwards, a tasting, where each visitor is allowed to try one type of rum and one type of liqueur. Both very delicious. Then to The Barrel, Home of Australia's favourite Ginger Beer. Here we participate in a tasting of 19 non-alcoholic drinks. Very interesting. Some things not really to our taste. Now it's time to relax in the Botanical Garden.
