Most tourists will probably travel to Sicily by plane, but a train ride can also be very interesting.
A very special highlight is the crossing from the island of Sicily to the Italian mainland.
Since there is no bridge and no corresponding tunnel, the train has to go on the ferry. To do this, it is dismantled and then travels on the water to the other side.
The actual crossing takes about 45 minutes. This gives the train passengers the opportunity to breathe in the sea air or have a coffee on the ferry.
The train takes the ferry from Messina (Sicily) to Villa San Giovanni (Italian mainland) or vice versa.
