The Nanos calls

Ishicilelwe: 06.06.2017

Yesterday city, today nature. But before we lace up our hiking boots again, let's hang out a bit in our accommodation ; )

During the free time in the morning, the plan to climb the Nanos takes shape. The Nanos, a mountain on the southeastern edge of the Julian Alps, is only a good half-hour drive away from us and is praised on various websites for its beautiful view over the Slovenian landscape. Sounds good, let's go.

As we turn off the highway, park our car in the parking lot, and make our way to the unmistakable Nanos, we realize that it will be more challenging than we thought. The mountain is only 1313 meters high, but our ascent begins at just under 550 meters. Well, we did relax the whole morning after all...

The path then leads continuously uphill as expected. The hiking trails are marked, but the rocks and trees make them so uneven that we climb more than we hike.

In the last stretch of the route, we crawl along "safety chains" (probably not the technically correct term, but it describes it pretty accurately) until we finally reach the summit.

The ascent was really fun, so after a short break, we head back down with high motivation. 3 ½ hours after the start of the hike, we reach our car, drive home, cook something, and fall tired into bed.

Tomorrow we will change countries one last time. It's a pity that our time in Slovenia is already over. Besides New Zealand, Slovenia has impressed us the most. We will definitely come back : )
