Originally, we hadn't planned to visit the zoo in Pilsen. But after it was highly praised in the travel guide and reviews, we decided to spend our last day in Pilsen there.
The grounds are spacious and beautifully designed. In the Pilsen zoological and botanical garden, there are not only more than 1000 species of animals, but also many plants from different parts of the world.
Another reason for our visit was that I had read that there should be a Komodo dragon in the zoo. We had already seen these huge lizards on our trip to Komodo in Indonesia.
In the zoo, we saw many different lizards, but we didn't find a Komodo dragon.
Our special highlight were two red pandas, one of which was also active in its enclosure, chewing bamboo and finally climbing a tree in the outdoor enclosure.
The zoo also has a dinosaur park where models of dinosaurs are exhibited. However, we decided not to visit it and preferred to see the living animals.
In this way, we spent nearly six hours in the zoo.
On our way, we also went uphill - the zoo is located on a hill, so we had to climb some elevation. However, this rewarded us with a beautiful view of the city of Pilsen - at least in good weather.
During our visit, it drizzled quite often and the view wasn't that great.
On the other hand, there weren't many visitors at the zoo, so we could peacefully observe the animals.
