-10 meters, immersed...

Ishicilelwe: 11.02.2019

A little late, but better late than never.

After staying in Cairns longer than expected, I looked for activities to make the most of the remaining time!

And so on February 8, 2019, I went on a catamaran, out to sea, on the way to the great barrier reef.

After a nearly 2-hour ride, the most important rules and contents of scuba diving were explained, and then it was finally time to get in the water. I was excited, as it was my first time diving with scuba gear, and I have to say it was incredible!

Unfortunately, beginners were not allowed to bring a camera on this first dive, so I decided to do a second one.

And so, here begins my experience of my second scuba dives, captured in photos.

This is what it looked like before diving... All the tanks were refilled with oxygen and were really heavy! But once in the water, the weight was no longer noticeable!

Here you can see my two dive partners with whom I went on my second dive.

And underwater, there was a lot to discover! Most of these corals can be easily identified. You look at the coral, think about what it resembles, and that's the name of the coral: tree coral. As I said: Pretty easy!

But there are not only corals and fish down there, but also this approximately 50cm long oyster! At first, I thought this was just a coral (the colored part). But that changed when my diving instructor waved her fin at it and the oyster closed... Crazy!

And then there is also the upper part of the reef flooded with sunlight. Magical!

I also saw a shark. To be precise, a white tip reef shark! Unfortunately, that was on my first dive and so it couldn't be captured on camera and preserved for eternity.. :(

After about 40 minutes, the available oxygen ran out and we had to resurface. Back to reality...

I'm no longer in Cairns, but on the Sunshine Coast ☀ and I'm spending most of my remaining time with my cousin and her family 👪. I really have family everywhere :D

And tomorrow, a new adventure awaits...

To be continued...
