Day 13 - Dolphin ride through the jungle

Ishicilelwe: 23.07.2017

Today we were a bit more ambitious and went for a hike. We walked along the coast to a natural sea swimming pool and then back through the jungle. A couple yesterday took 6 hours to complete it.

After a leisurely breakfast, we got caught up talking with the hosts and 2 new guests, so we started late.

About 20 minutes in, we would have preferred to lie motionless on the beach due to the heat and humidity. But we wanted to see something.

So we continued, the path along the beach ended and we had to make our way through the jungle. It was clear about 500m later that we would never become Indiana Jones, as we were afraid of pretty much all creepy crawlies. We crossed small bridges that required trust in their construction, walked through brackish water and made our way over rocks and stones. We also passed by a ruin where cocaine is supposedly produced at night... oops.

Good thing we were there during the daytime 🤗

We didn't see much except for an army of leafcutter ants, but we could hear birds and howler monkeys.

Quads are supposed to drive through here too 😂

We eventually arrived at Black Rock Beach, a small beach made of old black coral reefs. It wasn't really suitable for swimming, but it was beautiful. There were many small crabs and hermit crabs working and hundreds of tiny snails in all colors.

As soon as we arrived, our dog friend Halftail came to visit. He and a buddy (🐶) were actually on their way back, both had accompanied another guest from our BnB on the hike. We took a break, Halftail chased fish in the water and then let us pet him.

When we wanted to leave, suddenly 2 other dogs showed up, so we walked back together. Just like at home, except the dogs didn't care about us. Just like at home.

Simon from the BnB later told us that the dogs often go on hikes with the people here. On the way back, they stop at their own home.

At dinner, the host asked us what we did. We told him about the hike and our dog friends (3 dog friends). He understood 3 dolphins for a moment and thought that 3 dolphins had pulled us through the water the whole way. Not bad either... 🐬

Oh, we didn't make it to the swimming pool, just lazy life, hammock and cocktails 😉
