Day 7: Yellowstone NP, Upper Geyser Basin, Black Sand Basin, and Biscuit Basin

Ishicilelwe: 12.05.2017

Today the night was over a bit earlier again. After the somewhat meager breakfast, we set off: off to Yellowstone National Park. Historically, this is not only the first national park in the USA, but also in the world. It was founded in 1872 by President Ulysses S. Grant.

Our destination today was the Upper Geyser Basin with the world-famous geyser 'Old Faithful'. The drive took about 45 minutes. We were there so early that the visitor center wasn't even open. So we took a little walk and then got the necessary maps and descriptions of the geysers from the visitor center. Then we arrived just in time for the eruption of Old Faithful. He does it every 1 to 1 and a half hours +-10 minutes.

Afterwards, we went on a short hike along other geysers. Even if some were still small, they all stank! A mixture of rotten eggs and a musty laundry room...🤢

We also saw a few animals. Of course, my favorites: bison. But also a marmot and a squirrel. Unfortunately, no grizzly or black bears. Evi was quite happy about that...😁

After the Upper Geyser Basin, we headed back towards the hotel. On the way, we made a stop at Black Sand Basin and Biscuit Basin. There are photos from all 3 places. Back at the hotel, we licked our wounds: our feet were tired, and I got a nice sunburn on my neck and forearms. Underestimated the weather.

As a conclusion, a little quiz: Which animal does the giant pile in the photo belong to?

Squirrel, marmot, bison, or grizzly?

Resolution tomorrow!😊

Wow, sehr beeindruckende Bilder!

Tolle Bilder , Umgebung bizarr. Geruch bestimmt auch beeindruckend 😷. Tschüß, bis morgen 🙌
