Today's game drive started with the sunrise. After yesterday's so successful day, the hope was great to experience such a day again.
But the game drive started quite disillusioning. In the first hour, apart from a giant snail, we didn't see anything.
But then, we rode on a huge wave of luck. To make a long story short, we saw the Big 5 in one day.
First a family of rhinos that were seen on the river bank,
then a herd of grazing buffalo
followed by a lion couple, which was lying leisurely in the tall grass.
To our great luck, we were also able to watch a leopard creeping through the tall grass
and last but not least, a majestic bull elephant stuffing grass into its mouth.
It is already a huge stroke of luck to see the Big 5 on a trip, but seeing them in one day is almost like a miracle. I could barely believe my luck. Even our guide rarely had the luck to see more than one leopard within 24 hours.
The large truck was a great help during today's and yesterday's game drives. The setup is about 2 meters off the ground and we can look into the tall grass from a height of 3 to 4 meters. This way, we could observe the leopard and the lions well, while the car drivers only saw grass.
But there is not only the Big 5 to see, a family of giraffes, a whole herd of zebras, elephants every now and then, impalas and and and....
I can only recommend to everyone to go on a game drive or bushwalk and try their luck.
