Since we were doing well the day before and it was already pleasantly warm at breakfast, we packed our bag for the beach and took an Uber to Ipanema Beach in just 20 minutes. There we were already greeted by one of the many beach chair rental owners - €10 per day for two chairs and an umbrella sounds fair.
The water temperature was pleasant, the view of the surrounding mountains was great as always, and the sun was shining brightly from the sky. The vendors came every minute and the offer ranged from cool drinks, freshly cooked corn cobs, bathing textiles to all other products. All very friendly, not pushy, and with fair prices - easy to bear.
As the sun slowly threatened to disappear behind the mountains, we strolled along the beach a bit more and drove back to our accommodation. Before it got dark, we had to quickly buy a few things, but it was no problem as the streets were still busy. We had heard from many travelers that caution is advised in Rio and one should be careful regarding crime. Throughout the entire trip in South America, however, we never felt uncomfortable, Ines didn't wear jewelry, we only had the essentials with us and kept them close to our bodies. In the dark, we also tried to get from A to B with a taxi or Uber, or asked the locals how safe it is. Since Uber rides were cheap and worked reliably, we used them very often. In the evening, the usual program of chilling, showering, cooking, and eating was on again.
