Rome - the eternal city

Ishicilelwe: 12.06.2018

For this day, weeks of research were done on the internet. Do not drive into the city with your car... Good advice. Although dad already survived Barcelona in rush hour. We choose the affordable option. The train... Only 3€ per adult. In the nearest train station in the morning, the disillusionment - parking spaces are full. But we still find one "Russian" somehow. Mom secretly prays that the car is still there. We get tickets and drive about 1 hour to the city. Everything works out great.

At the main train station, we immediately buy tickets for the city tour. We want it to be stress-free for the children and for us. In the bus, you can see why it was said not to drive into the city with a car. It's hard to move forward. Horns honking everywhere, people crossing main streets calmly. The advantage is that you can take great photos from the bus. Provided you're sitting on the right side of the bus. We pass by the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Circus Maximus, and finally get off at the Vatican. Quickly grab an ice cream for the children, buy some merchandise, and change Jules' heavy diaper. Off to St. Peter's Square, passing various annoying junk and tour vendors. The 'no, thanks' slowly turned into shaking heads. The crowds there around noon, too much. We don't have to and don't want to go in, but we take plenty of photos on the forecourt. Jule is already taking a nap in the stroller.

Back to the bus. Chaos at the bus stop. All hop on and off buses go there. Our red line is directed by a hectic 'Line Manager'. He always wants a queue. That way, this way. Bus is full again... Annoying... We have to fit the stroller in. It's better not to get off and on anymore... Passing by the Spanish Steps, really many squares and churches, we quickly return to the main train station. Plan to go back to the Colosseum and get off. But it took until shortly after 5 p.m. until we got there. Time flies... We still have to go back 1 hour by train. So take photos quickly... going inside is not an option. Back on foot to the main train station. The children are doing well. Even Philip, who is lazy to walk. The sight of soldiers and army trucks attracts us again and again.

At the train station, crowds of people. Dad guides us through. We're on the right train. A nice young-at-heart grandma has fun with Jule. We arrive around 7:30 p.m. The car is still there. Thank God...

An exhausting day with many impressions... The children still don't want to sleep.
