On the Transsib to Krasnoyarsk

Ishicilelwe: 13.05.2019

Now the first longer Transsib journey starts from Yaroslavl departure 18:20 to Krasnoyarsk arrival 3 days later at 10:07. These are 3816 kilometers by train and four times an hour time difference. In train 704 we have booked a 4-person compartment for exclusive use.

Start at Yaroslavl station

Our train ready to depart in Yaroslavl

The view from the window is a big cinema for me. 😊
Sometimes it's endless steppes, sometimes birch forests and marshland. From time to time a village appears, and since the train is relatively slow, you can see so much along the way....

For meals, we go to the dining car or take something from the packed food. Hot water for soup, coffee, etc. is available at any time from the samovar present in each car. 😊

The dining car is used relatively little as most travelers take care of themselves. When we were in the dining car, the food was tip top 😋

For each train car there are two conductors who accompany the train throughout the entire journey and take turns. At a stop, they check that only those who have a ticket for this car get on and otherwise they look around in the car.

Shortly after kilometer 1777 at Versina stands the obelisk that marks the border between Europe and Asia. With a little luck, I was able to take a photo 😊

The days were always ended with a beautiful sunset

But you also see poverty and many abandoned houses. Most houses have large gardens and usually a greenhouse so they can provide for themselves.

Dani enjoys not having to drive for once and being able to take a nap...

I use the stops at the stations to stretch my legs and explore the surrounding area. I always make sure to ask the train chief about the departure time of the train. Since I don't know Russian and they don't speak English 😳, I write down the time and they confirm it 😊. So far, I haven't missed a departure, otherwise Dani would have to carry double the luggage and would be rid of me for a while....😂

Despite these signs and existing underpasses or overpasses, the Russians don't take it so seriously and nobody cares...

Taking the dogs for a walk where there's something to smell 😂

Also this family exemplary never stands on the tracks..

The maintenance vehicles are designed according to the road conditions along the railway line...

Maintenance trains are often very long and have many machines and crew cars.
