Guests on Columbus' ship

Ishicilelwe: 09.03.2024

Day 42: The first rainy day of our trip is behind us. It has rained several times, but only briefly and only a few drops. It poured all afternoon today. But that was okay too. Sleeping, reading, dozing, listening to the Bundesliga on the radio, with coffee or tea and a piece of cake or two in between - we couldn't complain.

In the early evening we went out to dinner and that got really interesting. After the good experiences with a hot stone in La Campella, I simply googled in the afternoon for a restaurant in Altea that offers this special method of preparing steaks. And sure enough, I found one: Columbus 1492 . And in fact it was practically around the corner - well, not quite, but pretty much. In any case, I was able to persuade Icke to take a little walk in the evening.

We found a restaurant that stood out from the outside. It looked like a ship from the Middle Ages. The facade resembled a ship's side, deck, superstructure, masts - everything was there. We went in very impressed and were overwhelmed by the museum-quality interior. Walls and tables were decorated with utensils from around 1500. Swords, sabers, rifles, uniforms, coins, pictures filled almost every square centimeter that could be found. It was difficult to say whether it was real or not. We didn't think about it for long, but let ourselves drift into a time long past.

We were lucky to get a table. The restaurant was fully booked at 5 p.m. After initially being a little overwhelmed by the colors and shapes, we looked around while sitting and were surprised at how much attention to detail the interior design had been put together. The waiters were very attentive. Icke ate a black paella with squid and I - of course - a steak from the Hot Stone, which was served with vegetables and a large baked potato. For dessert we treated ourselves to a portion of vanilla ice cream with hot chocolate and cream, which we shared. The meal was delicious!

Starting tomorrow the weather should be nicer again. I saw that you can also dine on deck on the ship. Or in the captain's cabin. Luckily we're here for three more evenings. I'm afraid we'll have to try and see if it tastes the same everywhere on the ship...
