Santa Marta is not very worth visiting as described in many blogs. Unfortunately, I had to agree, the city is dirty and noisy and doesn't have beautiful colonial houses like Cartagena.
However, the city is a good starting point to visit Tayrona National Park, which I did on the second day.
By bus, it is about 1.5 hours away, and then you have to continue on foot. Unfortunately, I was running a bit late and didn't want to stay overnight in the park, so I could only do a short hike through the park to be back on time.
I found the park to be very beautiful, the path was well marked, and the beach at the endpoint was stunning.
On the way back, I came across a small restaurant with many Swiss flags, so even in the remotest corners of South America, you can find something from home.
There wasn't much else to experience apart from the Lost City Trek, which also mostly starts from Santa Marta, but I will save that for 1-2 weeks later.
