On this day, we actually wanted to go to the Chungara Lake. The Chungara Lake is said to be one of the highest lakes in the world and known for its vibrant blue color. Unfortunately, a construction site got in our way just before reaching our destination. Construction sites in Chile are different from those in Germany. Sometimes, you need a lot of patience until the road is reopened. Trucks can stack up for kilometers. Some Chileans have recognized a market opportunity here and go from car to car with their small food stalls to sell food and drinks. We still had a long distance to drive that day, so we decided to skip the Chungara Lake.
On the way, we stopped at a small (seemingly abandoned) village and were able to take some pictures of Hare Mice (Bergviscachas) sunning themselves there. The Hare Mice look like rabbits with long tails.
In the evening, after a very long (dusty and boring) drive through the desert, we arrived in Iquique at a breathtakingly beautiful hotel and enjoyed watching the sea lions while having a Pisco Sour.
