1st to 5th December 2017
On Friday the first of December, I first helped Wowa and Julikamole with their move before Jule took me to the airport. There I also met Faik and his girlfriend Mae Mae, who works as a stewardess for Emirates. I checked in and said goodbye to my girls, my friend Catharina, Stinka, and Muddi.
On the flight over, Mae Mae brought us beer, schnapps, and later even fresh fruit and champagne from first class. What a start 🍾!
A flight of about 18 hours in a Boeing 777 and an Airbus A380 is a highlight, but I was glad when we finally arrived in Koh Samui and admired our hotel.
We had booked a 4 star hotel. Private pool, sea view, and a top room. Unfortunately, there was one essential feature missing. The sun. We didn't know that the island had a microclimate and that we would only see rain for the next few days. If rain is mentioned in Thailand, the German ARD would have a "breaking news" 😂.
So we spent the first few days sleeping in, buying rain ponchos, and going to the city.
There, unfortunately, the stereotypes about Thailand are confirmed. Masses of old men trying their luck with the many shemales or prostitutes. The market traders are also very pushy.
But let's get to the good things now. The rain is very warm, and with the right outfit and the right attitude, it's a lot of fun to explore the island.
For example, the taxis, which pick up everyone like pick-ups and drive around the island. The thrill is shocking. Also, the full moon party on the beach of Ko Pha-ngan with thousands of visitors dancing to music on the beach during full moon. The unforgettable scooter ride with three drunk people to the boat. (Don't worry, we were just drunk and didn't drive ;-) ). Also, haggling for every price for every bucket. (usually 300 baht). Speedboat rides at 5 am or the beautiful view from the hotel terrace of the Gulf of Thailand.
All these were the impressions of Koh Samui. It may have only been a few days, but they were very good.
