Canada Day 19 - Sun, Heat, Relaxation

已發表: 19.10.2018

Today we had planned to sleep in. However, we were woken up early in the morning by the elephants in the room above us. I don't know if the ceiling was just really thin or if the people above us were just unnaturally loud (the glasses in our room were tinkling!), but we rolled around in bed for a while until we finally got up to go to breakfast. Of course, breakfast cost extra and was not included in the room rate. And the price was steep. With a tip, we paid a total of 50 dollars for breakfast. But at least the buffet was good and we were full for a while. It was also annoying how overly friendly the staff was. No matter what you say, everything is 'Awsome!'. But well, if you rely on tips...

After a hearty breakfast, we took a walk by the lake and then spent the day at the hotel grabbing a lounger and sunning ourselves by the pool area. It was really hot today! Unfortunately, the most refreshing pool was closed today for cleaning...very frustrating because we had booked the hotel specifically for the pools...So we used the other pools, which didn't offer much cooling as they were heated. So we spent the day lazing around, sizzling in the sun, and reading. It was really a nice change of pace!

We only ventured out later in the evening to have dinner. Today we found a Korean restaurant around the corner that was affordable. After that, I got the most expensive ice cream of my life (5 dollars for one scoop!) while we watched the beautiful sunset by the lake. It was also interesting to see the German restaurant, done up in the style of the Black Forest, where German schlager music was playing constantly...the Chinese seemed to like it, the restaurant was full of them :D

To escape our stuffy room, we used one of the pools again after dark. But that didn't last long as the mosquitoes rejoiced over the delicious food and attacked us right away. So back to the room, where it was really unbearable after this hot day. We were really glad to be heading back to Vancouver tomorrow.

We were unfortunately extremely disappointed with the hotel. For the price, we expected something different. Stuffy room without air conditioning, totally worn out and outdated. One of the pools was closed and everything had an extra charge, including the parking! Well, hindsight is always 20/20, we could have invested the money better. But at least we had two peaceful days.
