Today is the last full day in Chiang Mai.
Tomorrow, it's time to pack up and continue the journey.
After a small breakfast, we are heading to a very un-touristy area of Chiang Mai.
We stroll through the streets outside the city walls and come across a typical Thai local market.
Out of respect, we completely refrained from taking photos there... but we can tell you what we saw.
Starting with many colorful fruit stalls with giant pineapples🍍, vibrant pink dragon fruits, really big durians (also known as stinky fruit), delicious pomelos, and then moving on to many colorful flower stalls🌷🌹🌼🌺🌸, and finally ending up in a hall where there are edible treats.
Passing by chicken stalls, vegetable and spice stalls, we suddenly stop...
What is splashing in the water there? Upon closer inspection, we realize that they are big, really fat toads, with a diameter of at least 20 cm 🙈🙈🙈
Well, some people might like it 😂 but we voluntarily skip it!
On the left, there are whole ducks hanging, on the right, you can buy crocodile meat, and further ahead, we see a stand with scorpions.
Thanks to our guide Alex from the Elephant Sanctuary, we know that the thing with the scorpions is just a tourist scam. We always thought it was a Thai specialty... but it's not. Just a money-making scheme... like many things in typical tourist places.
We end the evening at a street food market with delicious chicken skewers and a few tasty cold drinks 🍻 at a bar near our accommodation.
