Sintra

Well sintra-lle there?

Welcome back and a warm hello to my report on the old town town and the countless castles of Sintra.

Since Sophia and I's accommodation was in Colares, we were able to explore Sintra with just a 30-minute bus ride. We chose a route on Komoot beforehand and then happily trudged off.

We were in town at a quarter to 10 but all the parking spaces were already full and it was swarming with tourists. Sophia and I weren't too happy about it but happily continued to follow our route. The majority of the other tourists squeezed themselves into buses, tuk-tuks and other rides or drove their own cars straight to the living room of Pena Castle.

As soon as we got off the main road or left the first attraction of the first palace behind us, we didn't see a single other person on the hiking trails and had the wonderful nature all to ourselves.

Entrance to the park including a visit to the castle cost around €14 but we both thought that the visit to this wonderful park was absolutely worth it.

Pena Castle certainly looks extremely impressive and is a wonderful play of colors of rich yellow and earthy red.

To visit the interior we had to stand around for almost 2 hours and then let ourselves be slowly pushed through the castle - we both agreed that the visit inside wasn't really worth it.

For our way back we chose the official hiking trail from the historic old town, which is only open until the evening and which is really beautifully laid out. This path also runs directly past a climbing area where we both got pretty sweaty fingers and both felt a great desire to climb. Unfortunately, this doesn't work well without equipment, which is why we continued walking towards the city center.

In the city center we treated ourselves to a few fresh croissants and then took the bus back to our accommodation.

It was a breathtakingly beautiful tour and everyone who is in Lisbon should see and experience this city and this hike!

The next day we continued running because we wanted to see Lisbon.

But more on that in the next post.
