In big water (sea), even the really big thing looks really small and is super difficult to photograph. I took a boat trip to see the humpback whales. These giants are around 15m tall, but when you want to take a photo of them, they are gone so quickly and you have only seen a very small part of them... I have taken countless photos, but when a whale jumped out of the water then I didn't get it in the photo, I only saw it live...
Humpback whales do not live in packs and travel alone. In the pen where I was allowed to see them, females were with their calves. Once a young animal swam right next to our boat and surfaced. But they only started playing on the way back - jumping out of the water or sticking out their pectoral fins and waving...
It was definitely an experience!
