The (Spirit) Wine Museum in Taierzhuang

I did not expect to find a wine museum in Taierzhuang – and indeed, what was translated as a wine museum in English is actually a museum dedicated to the Chinese spirit Baijiu. Nevertheless, the exhibition steadfastly refers to the Chinese 'Wine History' everywhere.
At the site of the museum, archaeological investigations have identified the former distillery Daosheng. A beautifully integrated excavation area with glass panels can be found in the museum. In this approximately 8-meter-long, 1.3-meter-wide, and 1.1-meter-deep cellar, many clay vessels and ceramic fragments from the Han Dynasty were excavated. The history of Baijiu in Taierzhuang can thus be well dated. The museum possesses over 1000 jugs from the collection of Li Fumin. The motifs and engravings provide historians with much information about cultural elements from past eras. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Taierzhuang became a distribution center between Baijiu from the north and south, playing an important role in promoting the development of prosperity and the exchange of Baijiu techniques along the Grand Canal.
