Happy New Year! Fiiiiirst 😋

Tuesday the 31st of December til Thursday the 2nd of January: On Tuesday we went for a short hike to Punakaiki. It was a nice easy hike along the Porarari River. As we were lazy, we only went to the swing bridge and back. Then we treated ourselves to Pancakes with bacon, banana and syrup, before visiting the Pancake Rocks. These rock formations are built up in layers and so they look a bit like a pile of pancakes. Back in Westport, we went for a delicious new year's eve dinner (hey, we shared one portion of pancakes earlier, so don't judge us 😋) and walked to a viewpoint next to the river for sundown. Walking up and down Westport's main street to find a place for drinks and live music, we realized that only two places were open. One was full of old metal guys, so we picked the other pub. When I asked for a cocktail card, there was a bit of confusion, before I was handed an ancient, sticky, hand written note book with cocktail recipes 😂 I stuck to beer. Two guys we got chatting to told us about a bon fire at the beach, so for 12 o'clock, we went there and had a lovely evening. As I sent out my New Year's Greetings, everyone was a bit confused about me being about 12 hours ahead of them. Fiiiiirst! 😋 The next day was a chill day before we drove to Franz Joseph.
