Today we were allowed to sleep in. By now we wake up at 5 anyway. The man of the house drove us to the starting point, described the route, and wanted to pick us up at the end. Around half past three/four. The route was beautiful. You walk through the forest and have beautiful beach sections over and over again. Of course deserted. On the way we met a group of monkeys (Spidermonkeys) that came really close.
After about 1.5 hours we arrived at the Rio Claro. Today it was too wide and too deep to cross by foot. You whistle with the whistle hanging on the bank and you are picked up by boat. Costs $2 per person. Since I only had a 10-dollar bill, there was coffee and cookies included. The toilet would have been included as well, but we decided against it.
At the beach of San Josecito, we spent a peaceful afternoon swimming, snorkeling, and dozing off.
The last stretch to the agreed meeting point along the beach was hot and exhausting. Unfortunately, our driver was not there. After an hour of waiting, I walked up the road because there was no cell phone coverage at all. It wasn't any better up there, so I asked in a restaurant if I could make a phone call. However, the little daughter of the host family answered. She didn't understand me at all 😢. But it was not because of the Spanish, but because of the bad connection. 🤪 Back down, Germans who are staying in our lodge happened to pass by. They took us to the restaurant with them, where we called again. The host then came and said he had been waiting for our call. But he was so kind and even wanted to invite us to dinner. You just couldn't be mad at him.
He then drove us home and even removed the scorpion 🦂 in the bathroom. Phew, it was creepy big.
Then I had a great meal. Wolfgang was treated with lemon juice and salt. Apparently, it helps against stomachaches. We'll see...
Tomorrow we will continue. It will be another long day!
