Waiting in Chumphon

Atejade: 25.03.2023

Day 18 (24.03.2023)

The report of today will be short. Why? Chumphon is ugly, maybe even one of the ugliest cities ever (quote: Ann-Sophie).

That's why our original plan was to climb a viewpoint outside the city. Unfortunately, we found out that there was neither a grave nor a scooter to rent in Chumphon, so we were practically stuck.

Nevertheless, we didn't want to give up on the day completely, so we set off on foot to explore the city. The desire for it disappeared quickly (reason: see sentence 3 of the report).

So we spent the rest of the afternoon in the hotel lobby watching trash TV. While Erik could still get along with it quite well, Ann-Sophie was about to burst with boredom.

There was a small glimmer of hope, though. At 7 p.m. we were meeting Rebecca and two of her friends at the market we discovered the night before. So at least we had a fun evening. Together we tried out Thai cuisine. On the menu today: Larvae. You can eat them, but you don't have to. But at least we gained the experience.

However, at 9 p.m. we had to say goodbye, as we had to catch a night train to Bangkok. The planned departure was at 10:20 p.m. Of course, we were sitting at the train station promptly at 9:30 p.m. And so we sat there for quite a while until the train actually started moving. With a delay of almost an hour, we were finally on our way to Thailand's capital. We were denied the privilege of a sleeping car, so we had to make do with regular seats.

In the bright light of the train compartment and amidst deafening noise, we close our eyes in search of sleep.

To be continued....
