Copenhagen/Denmark

Atejade: 10.08.2024

August 1, 2024 Copenhagen

Today was my last excursion booked by Cecilia. Initially, there was some confusion regarding our meeting point, as it had been changed at the last minute. Eventually, all participants gathered at the bus parking lot, where we met our Danish tour guide Sven and were allowed to board one of the buses.

First, we drove for over half an hour to Frederiksborg Castle, admiring the magnificent buildings and the expansive park while learning about some aspects of Danish history.

After that, we continued on to Kronborg Castle, the supposed residence of Prince Hamlet. Supporting this assumption was our encounter with the rather temperamental Ophelia and then Hamlet himself, who, as usual, carried the skull of his friend Yorick with him.

The castle was noteworthy in that it was one of the first to feature spiral staircases as well as an indoor toilet with drainage.

We left Hamlet behind us and drove back to Copenhagen for about an hour.

At the marketplace, we had an hour of free time. There were two halls with a wide selection of food available for purchase. You could also have lunch there. I opted for a generously topped 'open wrap', which cost me nearly €20.00 without a drink. The prices here are extremely high, but you get good quality.

The bus picked us up for the city tour. We were allowed to explore a location with four royal palaces on foot.

Our last stop before returning to the ship was Copenhagen's landmark, the 'Little Mermaid'.

After dinner, the brilliant performance of pianist, composer, and comedian Jon Courtenay took place, bringing us to tears of laughter.
