Hello, in this blog I will tell you about one of many trips with my Muddi. It all started in 2011 with a flight voucher to London (20 € BRE - STA). Since then, my mom and I travel once a year to special places in Europe to experience a few days of adventure.
In 2016, I traveled with my mom to Oslo - Stavanger - Tallinn - Helsinki
First of all, this time I booked a one-way flight and a return flight separately. I flew from Hamburg to Oslo with EasyJet and at the end I went back to Bremen with Ryanair from Tallinn. It was much cheaper and especially the connecting flights cost about 40 €.
In Oslo, we only had 24 hours before continuing to Stavanger. Oslo is a beautiful city with a lot to offer, but the cost of living is much higher than in Germany. The AirBnB was an absolute HORROR and I have to say, I have traveled a lot but the Valerenga apartment in Oslo for 64 euros per night was just dirty. My Muddi even slept under our own towels because she wasn't sure if the sheets were even changed...
Thank god it was only one night ;) but be careful with apartments that have no reviews yet.
So we just walked around a lot and took a city tour to experience as much as possible. We also drove to the Holmenkollen ski jump. I think if you're not a fan, it's not particularly interesting (in summer), but my Muddi is a winter sports fan and it was really fun to look around there.
We also visited the Vigeland Sculpture Park. It's free and really a beautifully landscaped park with many different sculptures.
Then we continued to Stavanger, which was uncomplicated. Here we had a nice AirBnB 'In the heart of Stavanger City' 45 € per night from which we took one of my most beautiful tours. Stavanger itself is a small typical Scandinavian city with white wooden houses and a colorful city center with a beautiful harbor on the Lysefjord.
Our tour went to the Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock), a huge rock formation in the Lysefjord. The hike was strenuous but after two hours we reached the goal. My Muddi is not the youngest anymore and was incredibly fit! It was so nice that the two of us could experience this together!
The next day, we looked at the Lysefjord from below and took a three-hour fjord cruise. In addition to the classic route, we stopped at a waterfall, got fresh water, and took a sip. =D
Unfortunately, it rained all day on the last day, otherwise we would have taken a tour to Kjerag. NEXT TIME!
From Stavanger we went to Tallinn. Wow, what a great city!
All of a sudden we were in the Middle Ages and strolled through the old town and its old city wall. Admired the old buildings and tower walls. We stayed in an AirBnB for 50 € per night, which was good but not particularly noteworthy. It was located near the harbor, which was advantageous for the Helsinki trip.
Above all, the food was really excellent. The Raetskaevu16
is absolutely amazing! Definitely book in advance!
We then took a boat trip to Helsinki for a day and returned in the evening. To be honest, I can't say much about Helsinki. It is a beautiful small city with many churches and many historical places. The harbor didn't really impress me and I didn't have any special experiences there. I think you need a few days to really get to know Helsinki.
Stavanger was the absolute highlight for me in terms of nature and I will definitely come back. In terms of the city, Tallinn clearly wins with its cute medieval atmosphere =) WOW WOW WOW!
